Located in Collodi, home of the most famous puppet in the world, stands the magnificent and aristocratic Villa Garzoni with its large garden and its butterfly pavilion.
It is called “Castello” by the locals and is recognized as a National Monument.
Inside the Villa the parents of Carlo Lorenzini, the author of “The Adventures of Pinocchio”, worked as a gardener and maid, and it is where the author spent most of his childhood.
The Villa, in a typical style of the Lucca Villas, is positioned on five floors and has access from a monumental staircase; its beautiful Garden is one with the Villa that flanks it and partly overlooks it.
Visiting the Garden is an unforgettable experience that will make you admire splendid flowers, fountains, statues, the Labyrinth, the “Teatro di Verzura”, the “Viale dei Poveri”, the “Padiglione dei Bagnetti” and much more.
A must-see is the Butterfly House, a structure made in crystal built on stone; here there are numerous species of colorful butterflies and chirping birds from all over the world.
